Yau Sir Meng (b. 1992), an artist who works multi-disciplinarily. Her early series of works mainly concentrates on questioning, exploring as well as expanding and inspecting the value and beliefs in education, the relation between education system, teaching method of educators and students. In 2016, she departed from Malaysia to pursue her studies and since then, her experiences of being in a foreign land affected her work, amplifying her need of an identity and led to her subsequent preoccupation on discourses of Identity, Nations, and Ethnicity. She did long distance reviews on Malaysia since its Independence, following its development, as well as current situation, putting up a huge effort to sort out the relationship between the country and herself.

 

Besides, she sees art-making as a process of self-searching, learning, reverse thinking and communicating. She holds a strong interest in exploring and playing with different kinds of materials, using visual strategies and languages which respond to certain concepts and contexts through object-based installation, performance, and other mediums.

 

She took her Diploma in Fine Art in Malaysian Institute of Art (M.I.A), Kuala Lumpur as a scholarship holder and graduated with the Best Student Award, and is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Art in Taipei National University of the arts, Taipei.​

 

Her works were exhibited in Division of Reality, 2017 Outstanding Art Prize Exhibition, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan. 'Young Malaysian Artists: New Object(ion) III', Petronas Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
